San Francisco issued first-ever Tornado Warning
The National Weather Service issued San Francisco's first-ever Tornado Warning on Saturday morning, which was lifted about 20 minutes later.

DALY CITY, Calif. (KGO) -- The National Weather Service issued San Francisco's first-ever Tornado Warning on Saturday as a strong Level 3 storm moved through the region.

It was originally issued at 5:52 a.m. for San Francisco, Daly City and Broadmoor, but was ultimately lifted about 20 minutes later.

The National Weather Service issued a Tornado Warning for parts of the Bay Area San Francisco, Daly City and Broadmoor.

Meteorologist Lisa Argen said the last warning closest to the area was for South San Francisco in the 1980s.

ABC7's Stephanie Sierra spoke with San Francisco State Professor Emeritus of Meteorology John Monteverdi. He says the last tornado he witnessed in San Francisco was in 1983 at Lake Merced. However, he says there have been other public reports of tornadoes in SF county in early 2000s.

Professor John Monteverdi also said there was a Tornado Warning in Richmond in the 1990s.

Meanwhile, thousands of people are without power in the Bay Area.

ABC7 spoke with some Daly City residents, one resident, Chris, saying it is "nasty outside."

A Level 3 storm expired at 7 a.m. according to Meteorologist Lisa Argen. Then it will be a Level 2, then a dry, Level 1 storm for the rest of the day.

But it will continue to be windy.
